No trip to the North Georgia mountains isn't complete without a trip to one of many apple orchards. Daniel and Dan did some research and decided we would try the one that had something called an Apple Cannon. We all wondered exactly how the Apple Cannon would work. Nothing more than an air compressor, a long metal shoot and a stick to pack the apple down the shoot! We bought three baskets of apples and were sure someone would get an apple into an apple crate before we shot all 50 or so apples. Boy were we wrong! For those who shot the cannon, they said there was no way to know how far the apple would travel from one shot to the next. It was great fun, but we all agreed we could have bought several gallons of cider or more apples with the money we spent on the baskets of apples we shot across the field (that would have been the prize had we won).
And no cabin trip is complete without a fire! Luckily, the folks that own the cabin know that too and had a firepit and wood all ready for us. We enjoyed marshmallows and banana boats. It was the first time for everyone but Sharon to enjoy these tasty creations. Recipe: whole banana in skin with a small sliver cut out, marshmallows, chocolate chips and aluminum foil. Wrap it all in the foil and put it in the fire for awhile. Open and enjoy the ooey, gooey divine sweetness! We had a great time sitting around the fire chatting since this was the only time all three little ones were asleep at the same time.
And we must not forget the hike to the river and back. The cabin sat on the river and had steps that led down to a deck, the only problem was the incline of the hike. Mostly, it was the hike back up for those of us who are not in the best shape. Cody and Petunia, Sharon and Lisa's dogs made the trip several times a day. After one trip down and Sharon carrying Cody's 80 pound body back up because he was afraid of the stairs, Sharon showed him how to walk up the side of the mountain and it was all good. Speaking of dogs, Cody and Petunia were the best! They tolerated three small children for two days!We had a great time and hope we can all go again next year!
