Grey Kitty accompanied Noah into surgery.
On August 26, 2011, Noah had a tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and a second set of tubes placed in his ears. We prepared him as best we could for a three year old. First, Noah received "goofy" juice to relax him and that he did. The photos above are right before he was wheeled away from us. Thankfully, the surgery was short and the staff at CHOA kept us informed the forty-five minutes he wasn't with us.
When he returned, we quickly learned Noah did not like the drugs nor did he like the IV that was placed in his hand once he was out. He wanted the IV out and he wanted to go home. He made this clear to everyone on the day surgery wing! After several long hours we were free to go home.
We spent the weekend, encouraging Noah to drink every few minutes and trying to get the boy who doesn't eat to do so even though his throat felt like it was on fire. We are thankful for liquid prescription pain meds. The meds helped to keep Noah relaxed enough that he didn't dwell on the fact that his throat hurt. Trying to be a good Mom, I tried to wean him off the prescription meds, but quickly learned the boy needed several more days of the good stuff.
Baba, Daniel's Mom, came and spent the week with us. Noah loved having a playmate that agreed to do and play anything he demanded. We were unsure of Noah's recovery time, but around day eight it was evident that he was pretty much recovered. We were able to stop the pain meds, including over the counter ones, before returning to school on Tuesday.

Obviously glad that it all went well and this is behind you guys. But, seeing his little face on that bed made me sad and scared for him. Brave boy!
